What Is Ombre for Nails?

Ombre nails are a type of nail art, mostly seen in manicures. This form of nail art is a smooth blend of light and dark colours, often of same or contrasting shades, which creates a gradient. The transition from light to dark, or dark to light creates a beautiful effect!

How Long Does Ombre Last On Nails?

If you got ombre nails with polish on your actual nails, then your ombre manicure will last for up to 7 days or a little less than a week. However, if you got ombre nails done professionally, then your manicure will last anywhere between 2-3 weeks.

Can Ombre Nails Be Done With Gel Nail Polish?

Ombre nails can be done with any polish, even with gel nail polish. Typically, there are 2 techniques professionals use for ombre nails:

  1. Sponge Blend

This technique is used with traditional nail polish. Your nail tech will use a wedge-shaped sponge to create a blend of two, sometimes more, nail paints. A base coat goes first, then comes your nail art, finished with your top coat.

When creating the gradient, your nail tech will tap the sponge onto the nail paints, creating a swirl of colours, blending them together beautifully.

  1. Brush Blend

This technique works well with gel nail polish. Your nail technician will first apply a base coat, followed by one of your chosen gel paints on the left side. They will apply a second layer to the right side, gently overlapping the two and using a brush to gently stroke the colours together to create a blended ombre.

What Colours Go Together With Ombre Nails?

In 2023, you can go for the following ombre nail colours:

  • Purple with Ombre Nails
  • Red Ombre Nails
  • Pink Ombre Nails
  • French Ombre Nails
  • Blue Ombre Nails
  • Nude Ombre Nails
  • Ombre Nails With Glitter (Multi-Coloured)

Of course you can always be creative and add more colours to mix & match!
